our services

carpentry

Over the years we have developed a wide range of carpentry and woodwork experience.  From simple, rustic carpentry to exciting bespoke projects, we can help you realise your ideas.  Our portfolio includes various furniture designs, complex built in storage, bespoke kitchens, beautiful signage and almost everything in between - displaying our experience working with a range of wood species, green and air dried timbers, and speciality techniques such as steam bending. See our gallery for examples of our work.

Timber Framing

Using large section timbers, jointed with pegged mortise and tenon joints to create the frame of a building, is a traditional technique that creates a truly unique space.  Oak is commonly used, but other species such as Douglas Fir also serve well.  Joints are hand-cut, and at every stage we can ensure attention to detail and quality control.  We offer a complete timber framing service - from architectural design through to putting the finishing touches to a building that will be sure to reward you for choosing wood!  From home offices to garages and homes, our timber framed buildings are of the highest quality.  And as a small family run business, we are confident that we can offer competitive prices and can certainly guarantee a personal and friendly service.

Artwork

We are delighted to be able to offer our clients bespoke, personalised carpentry pieces using a technique known as Pyrography.   We have worked on projects ranging from illustrated furniture pieces to wedding gifts, household items and signs.  See gallery for examples of some of our work...

Environmental Policy

Oak Matters is committed to using locally and responsibly sourced timber for use in our work. We use environmentally friendly and natural wood finishes on all of our products. Occasionally, when local sawmills cannot provide us with the correct timber, we source excellent quality European Oak from well managed and sustainable sources.

For every timber framed building we construct, we donate a portion of the cost of the build to ‘Trees for Life’ – Scotland’s leading tree conservation charity.
